What is the thing that people fear most, in this period of medical emergency due to coronavirus? You might think about the exhaustion of food supplies, no, it’s the lack of toilet paper.

After the announcement of the containment measures, many countries witnessed the now sadly usual assault on supermarkets, but the first product subject to raid was toilet paper: the toilet paper became almost impossible to find and, in the large chains, the limit was placed on two packs per customer.

The scenes of these days speak of a real drama taking place: The Cut tells of a couple from Corpus Christi, Texas, who stole all the rolls found in the bathrooms from a restaurant and ran away hiding them under their clothes. 911 – the emergency number in the USA – appealed to citizens not to clog the lines to communicate the lack of toilet paper supplies, also offering a decalogue with valid alternatives, including “receipts, newspapers, rags of cloth, laces and cotton balls “. And there are also those who have decided to monetize this madness: some restaurants in Illinois offer a free roll of toilet paper to those who make at least 20 dollars of consumption. But before that, someone else seems to have found a definitive solution: the dear old bidet.

The rise of bidet

Bidets are popular in Italy, Portugal, Japan, Argentina, and Venezuela. According to The Atlantic, the bidet was invented in France in the 1600s and is used for cleaning the body after going to the bathroom. The most funny thing is that, you’ll find these in places like Italy and Portugal, Japan, Argentina, and Venezuela, but probably not in France, where it was invented.

Being considered so far as an accessory for luxury hotels by snobbish customers, the small sanitary has become in a few weeks the new object of desire. Sales on Amazon or on other sites have been soaring and, with a few tens of dollars, a kind of water jet can be supplied to homes to be mounted directly on your toilet.

The world is going to discover something that will become a must-have in each toilet. The rise of bidet has begun…
